Tours that bring music to life

On a Wayfarers tour, singers travel together to perform, share workshops and make music with schools and communities. Each journey has its own destinations and repertoire, shaped by the people we meet along the way.

Wayfarers tours are exciting and dynamic; they provide enrichment and nourishment to all participants and the communities we visit. The tours range from short interstate visits to region-wide and world-wide adventures up to a year in length, including the 2012 tour. We encourage all musicians who embrace the core values of Wayfarers, regardless of whether they are involved in Steiner education, to join us in bringing music to the world!

A journey together

Every tour is its own adventure

Touring is central to the Wayfarers adventure — it is why we call ourselves Wayfarers. Since our creation in 1997, we have travelled across Australia and overseas, bringing performances of choral music and music-theatre to new audiences.

Each itinerary is different. Tours may take us to schools, community venues and local gatherings, where we perform and share music with the people who live there. Some journeys are within Australia; others take us further afield.

Workshops open doors

Music education is fundamental to Wayfarers. On tour, experienced members lead age-appropriate workshops in schools and communities, with the whole group helping to create an immersive, supportive experience.

Sessions may introduce primary and secondary students to choral singing and music-theatre, or invite the wider community to sing together. Over the years, these workshops have opened the door to choral music for thousands of people — and have inspired many to join Wayfarers themselves.

Performances and workshops let us meet a place through its people, while sharing the music that brings us together.

“Come for the music. Stay for the friendships, shared adventures and places we discover together.”

Life on tour

Rehearse, travel and make memories

Tour rehearsals begin with local Wayfarer choirs working on concert and workshop material in their home countries and states. Usually, a week or two of intensive rehearsals brings all participants together at the start of the tour. It is an energising time of learning and preparing music to share with audiences, communities and schools.

Accommodation is kept low-budget and depends on the size and length of a tour and where we travel. We may stay with host families, sleep in school halls or classrooms, or use hostels with communal spaces for rehearsals. Shared facilities and communal sleeping arrangements are often part of the experience.

For everyone

Making tours accessible

Wayfarers aims to keep costs as low as possible for participants and hosts. We also work to subsidise expenses for people who would benefit from taking part, and whose capability and commitment would strengthen the choir, but who cannot afford the full tour fee.

Every tour is a chance to learn, perform and share life with others. Find a journey that interests you, or look back through the stories and photos from tours that have already taken place.
