Northern Rivers Tour

In 2026 a small group of 12 Wayfarers toured the Northern Rivers. This was a practice tour for the new Torchbearers group. Our intention was to try leading a tour without Judy as chief conductor and organiser. On the tour the group had each chosen or been delegated tasks, and had to practise working together as musicians, friends, teachers, and most importantly, as leaders. To share the task of leadership was not easy, but overall the tour went very smoothly! We stayed at Rainbow Ridge Steiner School, which generously allowed us the use of its kindergarten room, and later, its library, as sleeping quarters and rehearsal spaces.

We toured multiple schools in the region including Rainbow Ridge (Lillian Rock), Shearwater (Mullumbimby), Aetaomah (Uki), Cape Byron, and Kia Moon’s pod school known as “Moonsong”. The group also ran public workshops and gave three wonderful concerts. Our experiences on tour were of joy in music-making with friends, planning workshop songs and activities, plus incredible meals cooked by a rotating roster of meal preparers! A very special highlight was the beautiful gift of a personalised choral haiku for each tourer, composed by Liam Waterford.

All the while we kept planning ahead for future endeavours… such as the upcoming India tour!
