Our Music

Choral music that travels through time and place.

Wayfarers sings early music, folk traditions, contemporary works, sacred repertoire, secular repertoire and original music theatre. A program might move from a Renaissance part-song to recorders, dramatic movement, a Judy Clingan children's opera and a workshop chorus learned with a local school.

Repertoire

A living program.

The Prophet workshop, Melbourne - April 2026

The choir's music reflects Judy Clingan's broad practice as a composer, conductor and educator. Programs may include medieval and Renaissance works, Baroque and Romantic repertoire, music from folk traditions, and contemporary Australian compositions.

Wayfarers performances often move beyond concert format into theatre: singing can sit beside spoken text, movement, puppetry, instruments and visual design.

Wayfarers performances typically consist of short choral pieces from 500 years of Western choral traditions, alongside larger works such as Handel's Messiah, Bach's Jesu, meine Freude, Britten's Rejoice in the Lamb, Tolkien-inspired Songs of Middle Earth and Judy Clingan's own music theatre works.

Choral foundations

Four-part singing is central: soprano, alto, tenor and bass voices learning to listen, blend and support one another.

Early instruments

Recorders, crumhorns, drums, dulcimers and other instruments often sit beside voices, especially in school workshops and music theatre settings.

Story and theatre

Wayfarers programs have included The Ring Bearer, Marco, The Little Prince, Heavenly Grandfather's Banquet, Endangered! and Harmonia Mundi.

Shared learning

Workshops help children and adults experience singing, acting, instrumental ensemble work and music history as connected parts of one creative practice.
