Workshops
Music-making we can share
Wayfarers brings age-appropriate music workshops to schools and communities during tours.
Music education
Singing, instruments and movement
Music education is fundamental to Wayfarers, as all of us have benefited in so many ways from this part of our education. To that end, a core purpose is to present age appropriate music workshops to schools and communities we visit during our tours.
These workshops usually involve teaching choral and music theatre pieces to school-age students in both primary and secondary school, as well as public workshops to members of the wider community. These are led by experienced members of the choir, but will be supported by all Wayfarers in order to create the most immersive, supportive and engaging experiences possible for our attendees.
Our workshops have opened the door to choral singing for thousands of people over the years, and many Wayfarers have joined the choir precisely because of their time in those workshops. This aspect of touring is also a key way for the choir to earn the income necessary to offset costs for tour participants.
Community Impact
Music that invites participation
Sophia Mundi was alive with the sounds of the Wayfarers for 3 days at the beginning of this term. Judy Clingan and her troupe brought their extraordinary musical gifts for us to enjoy, both during break times in the courtyard and for the students to participate in during lessons. The sounds of crumhorn, recorder, drum, voice and more came drifting through the air, delighting us all. It was such a rare treat to have music of the high calibre of the Wayfarers not only to enchant us as listeners, but also to call us to new heights of music making as students and teachers joined in the singing. Every class was engaged with music and the performance on the last day showed what a musical feast we had partaken of. Thank you to Judy and the Wayfarers for their remarkable talents.
